  3. Download

Press Download next to the one you want. It is saved as the PNG or JPG it was uploaded as.

Download a Subreddit Banner and Header Image

A community can have three kinds of top image: the banner across the top of the desktop page, a separate banner for the app and phones, and the small header image from the old design that old.reddit.com still shows. Each one the community has is offered with its own button, in the size it was uploaded.

View Subreddit Icons and Banners in Full Size

Reddit shows a community icon as a small circle and a banner scaled to your screen, and offers no way to open either. Here every picture opens full screen in the viewer, and the button next to it saves the original file — useful for moderators redesigning their community, fans making art, and anyone archiving a subreddit's look.

Desktop and Mobile Subreddit Banners

The desktop banner is a wide strip — r/pics uses one 4000 pixels wide — while the mobile banner is shorter and is cropped differently in the app. Communities often design the two separately, so both are worth keeping. Older communities may also have a legacy icon and banner from before Reddit's redesign; when they differ from the current ones, they are offered too.

Subreddit Icon and Banner Sizes

As of October 2026, a community icon is shown at up to 256 × 256 pixels, a desktop banner stretches across the full width of the page at a few hundred pixels tall, and the old-design header is a small image such as 160 × 64. Upload a square icon of at least 256 × 256 and keep the important part of a banner in the centre, since its sides are cut off on narrow screens.
